Description:

In February and March we are focusing on Innovation and Business Development. Why? Because every business needs a combination of innovative ideas and smart business tools to find success. In this 'Happy Hour-Biz Development' session you will learn about innovative ideas that have successfully created a positive impact, no matter how bizarre! The Happy Hour will showcase the innovative work of Apopo with...rats! -> What is Apopo? Cambodia is still one of the most landmine-affected countries in the world. APOPO along with local partner the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) is conducting humanitarian landmine clearance projects in Odder Meanchey and Siem Reap Provinces targeting the most mine-affected villages in order to return mine-free land back to communities where it makes the biggest impact. Apopo came with a very innovative solution: use the rats as deminers! The rats have a distinct sense of smell which can detect land mines, and are saving millions of lives everywhere around the world. Key figures: 4614 Landmines found and neutralized 35,140UXO found and destroyed 13,023,136 m2Total area released/cancelled ->Who is speaking? Live from Tanzania, we are delighted to welcome Christopher Cox - CEO of Apopo. Christopher will reveal the secrets behind this ground breaking, life saving venture and how the innovative idea to use rats began and flourished into the incredible work they do today - using rats to locate hidden land mines and detect TB in humans. The second part of the talk will be held by Lucas Veuve who conducted a photoreportage for Apopo last July, which will give us a more visual representation of their amazing work. He will be talking about this project with Apopo and present his incredible photos. Lucas Veuve is a Photojournalist based in Phnom Penh, who has worked with many organizations such GIZ, Care International, Handicap International and Friends International. His editorial work has been featured in BBC World News, Lonely Planet, The Independent and Skyscanner. He is also a AsiaLIFE photographer and Getty Images contributor. We are so happy to be hosting this intruiging and fascinating event here at Impact Hub, and hope you will join us to find out more about how innovative ideas- no matter how crazy- can actually save lives. #RatLove
